About Denise Ellen Casey
Bio

There is great power in a single voice. Denise’s work and life is an expression of this. Whether she’s facilitating individual Voice Movement Therapy sessions, teaching somatic or mindfulness writing groups, supporting others in telling their stories or performing her own art, her commitment to walk alongside people in their journey to reclaim their bodies, their voice and their liberation is at the center.

About her Walk to VMT:
In 2013 Denise was honored to co-coach the nationally recognized Burlington youth slam-poetry team Muslim Girls Making Change (MGMC). She lived and trained full-time for two years at a residential Buddhist monastery in Vermont where she served as Director of Mindfulness in Education. For several years she co-facilitated and co-created a 5-month mindfulness training program through the Vermont Education Health Initiative (VEHI) for public school teachers throughout Vermont. Denise created two original autobiographical plays, ‘Got This Voice’ and ‘Born of Belly’, that combine song, story, poetry and dance to look at the ways we carry, hold and heal stories in our bodies. When she became mysteriously sick in 2016, she got curious and trained in Traditional Chinese medicine and Amma therapeutic massage. Prior to that she studied reiki, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, myofascial and craniosacral practices, as well as apprenticed with teachers of voice, movement, improvisation and dance.  Denise recently trained for two years in Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) and is currently seeing clients in Burlington, Montpelier and Zoomland.
